The apple wood I used was sourced from two locations. The first was a mature tree that had been felled to make way for development. The second came from a local garden, where it had lain on the ground for several years. This latter piece had developed deep, rich coloration but was extensively split and cracked. By using additional resin in the pressure tank, I was able to stabilize the wood and produce several beautiful pieces.
